Dear Congressman Nadler,
If you read the email messages you receive, you might remember my name, as I have written to you often on a variety of issues. I have long been a vocal supporter of yours, but I am gravely disappointed in your position on the impeachment issue. I must state in the most emphatic manner I can that any system of law and government is ONLY AS GOOD as the integrity of it’s system of accountability. The Soviet Union had a beautifully written constitution, but the document was ignored by the rulers, and so was rendered meaningless. Bush/Cheney have clearly violated the FISA law with their domestic spying practices. They have clearly violated domestic and international law with the use of torture. The Bush administration repeatedly lied in presenting their rationale for the invasion of Iraq, the false allegations about uranium from NIger being only one obvious example. And the highest government officials are blatantly implicated in the illegal “outing” of a covert CIA operative, endangering nuclear safety around the world. Why should anyone, in any country (ours included), have any faith in the U.S. despite all of our fancy talk of freedom and democracy, if the country’s leaders, themselves, can get away scot-free with the highest crimes and misdemeanors. Our country has become an international laughing stock because of Bush/Cheney, and has lost all credibility. We impeach Clinton because of an “affair” based on sexual behavior more characteristic of an adolescent, yet a leader who virtually shreds the constitution daily is allowed to continue policies that have resulted in the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of thousands. Mr. Nadler, YOU ARE ON THE JUSTICE SUBCOMMITTEE, for God’s sake. How can you go to sleep at night knowing that your inaction has allowed this administration to cheapen, weaken, and demean our once noble country? What’s the purpose of your having entered politics? I never before thought it was for personal gain. I still hope it was not, but THIS IS THE TIME to show who you are, to show your courage and integrity. Please support impeachment legislation against Bush and Cheney in the House; criminalize those who commit high crimes and misdemeanors, not the citizens who oppose them.
